When Halloween becomes a marketing opportunity

Halloween is no longer just a celebration of costumes and candy. For brands, it has become a key marketing moment, offering opportunities for creativity and experimentation. Horror-themed worlds, pop culture references and immersive experiences provide new ways to capture attention and move beyond traditional advertising formats.

Halloween brand activation creates multiple touchpoints with consumers. Sampling, event-based activations and interactive experiences turn product discovery into something to experience and share. The goal is to spark emotions, encourage engagement and make a lasting impression long after the season ends.

Fanta taps into Gen Z’s fears for Halloween

For Halloween, Fanta teamed up with Universal Monsters to immerse Gen Z in a world inspired by horror films. Created with N2O, GLOBE GROUPE’s UK agency, the Haunted Fanta Factory activation took over Covent Garden in London with a two-storey immersive experience.

Visitors explored a fictional factory brought to life through five acts. The experience featured puzzles, unexpected scares and iconic horror characters. From the mixing room to the bottling line, each space helped bring the story to life. As a result, participants became the heroes of their own adventure.

The experience then expanded to Thorpe Park and several UK universities. By bringing the activation to different locations, Fanta created more opportunities to connect with young consumers. The campaign combined entertainment, product sampling and social media content creation.

Ultimately, this Halloween brand activation brought together storytelling, immersion and sampling. Rather than a simple seasonal campaign, Fanta created an experience to enjoy and share. This helped strengthen the brand’s connection with its audience while extending its world beyond the event.

Chupa Chups thrills Stranger Things fans

At Thorpe Park’s Fright Nights, Chupa Chups became the event’s official confectionery partner. To launch its limited-edition lollipop bags, the brand teamed up with N2O. Together, they brought the mysterious world of Stranger Things to life through an immersive experience inspired by the series.

At the heart of the activation, visitors were invited to step inside the Byers family home and take on the “Stranger Lights” challenge. Inspired by the iconic scene featuring the Christmas lights, the experience encouraged them to decipher a hidden message and work together to solve the puzzle, with exclusive rewards up for grabs.

Meanwhile, Brand Ambassadors handed out the limited-edition lollipops and guided visitors towards the activation. Their on-site presence helped drive product discovery while encouraging participation.

Through this approach, Chupa Chups combined a popular entertainment franchise, an interactive challenge and product sampling. The experience extended the world of Stranger Things beyond the screen, turning entertainment into a powerful way to connect with consumers.

Halloween, an endless source of inspiration for brands

Other brands are also pushing the boundaries of creativity to make Halloween a memorable experience. With Scream for Reese’s, Reese’s combined its confectionery with the world of the film Scream. In Mexico, an OXXO store also adopted Ghostface’s signature visual codes. Meanwhile, in London, a phone booth invited passers-by to answer a mysterious call for a chance to win a sweet treat.

In the United States, Sour Patch Kids also put a new spin on traditional trick-or-treating with The Very Big Kid. For the occasion, nearly 4.5-metre-tall inflatable characters guided children to houses where more than 20,000 bags of candy were hidden. Meanwhile, HI-CHEW launched the House of Mystery in California. Inside this immersive pop-up, visitors explored themed rooms, took on challenges and sampled different sweets to identify a mystery flavour.

Beyond their original concepts, these campaigns highlight the diversity of Halloween brand activations. Some reinterpret pop culture references, while others reinvent traditions or turn product discovery into a game. In both cases, these experiences encourage consumer participation. They also give brands new opportunities to build connections with their audiences.
